@ai6yr The article doesn't mention a likely source. Could it be raw milk?

@clacke @ai6yr there was an outbreak there in 2022 and the origin was traced back to an immigrant who contracted it before immigrating.

It's gotta come from somewhere, bacteria and viruses don't just spontaneously spring into existence.

@ageha @clacke @ai6yr @sun it's scarywhen i checked a few years ago the protocol was to isolate the patient and force them to take the second line antibiotic if they slipped up with the first one and they developed resistance to it, because the third line treatment is this horrible experimental rabies-treatment-like-thing that leaves you with brain damage even if it worksone of my great grandmothers actually was prevented from becoming a midwife because she had TBC scars on her lung, TBC being a thing we just lived with is not that long ago

@ageha @ai6yr @clacke @sun also reminds me ofback when my mom was head of immigration facility, and at some point way after the fall of the iron curtain in the late 90s the russians where still sorting out political prisoners from the gulagswhole batch of hollow-eyed russians where given asylum in sweden for some reason, being processed at the facility way up there north because it was closest, and most of them had TBC on arrival

@ai6yr Oh goody. My annual flu vaccine grew to four vaccines this year. Next year, will it be 5? 8+?My pharmacist is pretty good at recommending updates based on local outbreaks.

@ai6yr Is it too much to hope that N95 resps are effective against Tb?

@ai6yr Just dropping in to make the pedantic observation that "largest in recorded history" is an absurd statement that must rely on a very narrow definition of "records". TB was endemic for generations and there must have been thousands of cases (I'm not doing any research on this) at many times in "history." This is just bad #journalism.

@VirginiaHolloway @ai6yr Can't have an "outbreak" if it's endemic? 🤷🤪
