I think this screen might have had a LITTLE bit of use in the past.

this one is on ebay. They want 200$ for a terminal with that much burn in, they don't even know if it works, and they don't have the matching keyboard (and wyse keyboards are model-specific)

@foone Sounds like the two unburned in WY60s I've got in the basement might have more value than I thought!

@foone With that much burn in, I wonder how tired that tube is, too... Yeah no way $200 is a good price for that x3

Wyse terminals are all listed for like 200$-300$ on ebay. I don't really know WHY. They're not special in some way that other dumb terminals aren't, and half of these are missing keyboards (useless!) and/or have obvious deflection problems (at least one of them was shown TURNED ON while having failed deflection, which will damage it)

at the same time as all the 250$ broken ones (which often have another 100$ of shipping on them, which is Very Justified (IT'S A CRT FROM THE 80s: DO NOT SHIP IT CHEAPLY)), someone will be selling one for 200$ OBO but it's got a functional screen and an included keyboard.https://www.ebay.com/itm/166998811933

my guess is that people selling these things are just searching ebay to see how much they sell for and they're all sniffing each others farts. Every person with a broken terminal is like "see? ebay says they're 200$" and those aren't selling.

@diedofheartbreak (the worst part is that NONE of them have the special Dynix-branded keyboard that was used with those)

@foone ebay usually tells you what they sell for on average so either one person sold a good one for that much and they’re just copy pasting from there or intentionally asking more but will sell for much lower on an offer or to cover free shipping. but yeah its dumb.

@foone That’s how you - or you and a few friends - manage to manipulate your way into setting the “market” price. That’s why with ‘certain items,’ I don’t bother with any eBay auction that won’t allow you make an offer. Then again, everyone assumes that everything that’s old is gold… until they find out they aren’t… and then throw them all away rather than take a loss.

@foone speaking from experience:Those relics are priceless, even just for parts, in order to keep certain businesses running smoothly. Plumbing wholesale is where I encountered them, at a company that is over 100 years old.

@foone I do like these guys, I salvaged one from work when they switched to desktop PCs and I wished I grabbed more. Mine has a tiny amount of burn in and the keyboard has a few keys that are difficult to get a response from, but I’m going to be bummed when it finally fails.
