Do you track your reading habits? "Like the things we eat or the ways we move our bodies, the books we consume get talked about as yet another avenue for self-improvement," writes Tajja Isen for The Walrus. Here's her story about the problem with reading lists, and a way to make them useful and even lead to more enjoyment. Tell us in the comments what you think — and if you track, why.https://flip.it/AEiSjN#Books #Bookstodon @bookstodon #Reading #ReadingLists #Goodreads

@CultureDesk @bookstodon Pushing 80, I've probably read an average of two books a week since I was a kid. Never tracked any of it. I read very widely, and just keep at it. Now I can't read paper, e-readers to the rescue. I have thousands of books in #Calibre, more than I will ever finish. Yet I keep getting new ones...

@demerara @CultureDesk @bookstodon You also might try recorded books. I both read electronic books and listen to recorded books (Audible in my case). I can do the latter when I am exercising, doing housework, and other fairly mindless activities. I tend to do two things at once like that. I listen to my music while I am reading, for instance.

@BertL @CultureDesk @bookstodon I've tried recorded books, but my mind won't work that way. If I listen to the book, that is all I can do. And music while reading...instant headache! Single threaded, my brain is.

@demerara @BertL @CultureDesk @bookstodon I've tried and failed at this. I can't focus on a book if I'm listening to it. Just takes the fun of imagination away (for fiction) and can't think or analyze (if it's a non-fic) and I can't focus with music on. Static works fine when I'm on transit or out in public.

@xsecur @demerara @BertL @CultureDesk @bookstodon When I was young, audiobooks were only for children.
