I'm cleaning out my office (since I've been way too bedridden to do any Old Computers/Electronics for months) and I discovered these two CRTs, which had just had 4 boxes fall on them (and me, incidentally).I'm not a fan of how they're different colors while turned off. These are both B&W monitors, and I think they're both the same color phosphor. Different shades of grey probably means one of these is dead.

@foone I feel the need to point out just how much those together look like an oversized pair of glasses.

@rallias I definitely want to hook them both up and get them to show eyes, so I can make a double-eyed giant robot face.sadly if one is dead, that dream may never be

I didn't hear the distinctive hiss of a vacuum tube become merely a tube, but I was loudly shouting "OW FUCK" at the time, I may have missed it

@foone phosphor can be any shade. If you'd broken the tube it'd most likely be at the neckboard, this is usually super obvious, also filling with air tends to blow a dark spot in the centre of the screen

@foone does tapping a surface on each get a different ‘ting ting’ sound due to different pressures? Where they’re bare chassis, is a crack visible back on the rear end of the tube? That’s not always easily seen; some breaks hide, esp under coils.

@foone This reminds me of the time I wanted to open my Mac Classic by removing the back somewhat forcefully, which hit something inside and I heard "psshhhhh"...Turns out the handle indentation hit the small board on the back of the CRT which broke the little glass tube that was protruding from the middle of that board!
