@redoak I think the current limiting is a good middle ground. Only those seeking out Threads content see it for the most part, and of course users can always block the domain themselves if they choose.

@alexander if a regular mastodon instance had these policies it would be an open-shut case, and while many people believe that the reach and size of Meta complicates the question, i contend that if anything we should be more critical and less forgiving of a service that size.https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/facebook-fact-checking-hate-speech-meta-b2675311.html

What it comes down to is; do we make a moralising choice, framing federation as endorsement? Or do we make a strategic one, based on likely *consequences* of Blocking a server. How many people are less captured by hateful ideology, as a consequence of the fediverse Blocking Drumpf's Lies.social, or Cess.pit (real name rhymes with "slab" )? How many people have realised their friend are going down a rabhithole, moved to other servers, and tried to pull them out?(1/2)@redoak @Greg @alexander

@redoak> if a regular mastodon instance had these policies it would be an open-shut caseI don't think Meta is a special case. I apply the same standards, and the same strategic thinking, that I apply to any server that federates over ActivityPub.(2/2)

@strypey @redoak @alexander I'm not going to engage with this line of reasoning. Thanks though. Leave me off any replies.

@Greg> I'm not going to engage with this line of reasoning. Thanks though. Leave me off any replies. That's your prerogative, and I will. But FWIW if you're not willing to think in terms of cause and effect, then you're not really thinking at all. In which case your opinions about moderation policy are of very little value.@redoak @alexander
