Stability: little issues like the desktop environment not reserving ram too keep itself alive above all else. Othwise fineGames: Dx9 or any other vulkan implementation run great, better than windows. Older openGL ports run great, better than windows. Dx11, DX12? they run. Sometimes. It's better than it used to be thanks to valve.

Your model of graphics card really matters in the switch. Some run way better than others under the same driver stack. AMD gpus suck. New Nvidia gpus are writ large unsupported. No clue about intel gpus

@mischievoustomato @teratology @VIPPER @griffith @creamqueen I run Debian and Windows. Windows only for RekordBox. Everything else Debian. Debian runs dramatically better than Windows, both insofar as functionality/productivity but also stability. I don't really "get" the sentiment from people that Linux doesn't work or whatever because I consistently have a better and more pain-free experience on Linux than I do on Windows.

@mischievoustomato I'd rather just have the physical partition. I've got the space for it. Get better performance out of it and guaranteed functionality with peripherals and stuff since I'm using it specifically to interface with external audio hardware and stuff. Just didn't want any headaches and already had the Windows product key on-device and an install USB. Just simpler and easier than the whole VM approach. @teratology @VIPPER @griffith @creamqueen

AMD's driver doesn't have such hacks, so some dumpster fire games tend to run poorly - but that's clearly the fault of the game, not AMD and the real solution is not to play such garbage games.Dedicated Intel GPUs have the same issue as AMD GPUs, except all models have digital handcuffs on the peripheral software.Modern nvidia GPUs suck 100x time more, as the driver is 100% proprietary, spyware and malware and is crashy garbage.Ironically, old nvidia GPUs up to the 700 series with nouveau run with 100% free software, including free peripheral software and free VBIOS init, although reclocking is limited and there's still bugs that are yet to be worked out.

No. AMD gpus have pretty big issues under the free software stack. There are very nasty render order issues under linux, and poor hardware decoding issues that are only present on linux. Performance matters more than outdated, false, technical mumbo jumbo rehashed from the /g/ wiki.

Also a lot of online games help to have friend with you. I can't imagine playing an online game without mic chat enabled and fun teammates.
