       @interfluidity The English language’s negative connotations of left-handedness (although it’s not unique this regard) surely contributes to it: “sinister,” “gauche,” and “left” itself also being past tense of “leave, whereas “right” also means “correct”

       @interfluidity My theory has always been It’s what sums up the difference between the left and the right. The left tends to think of the many and does so with compassion. The right tends to think of the self and barely extends compassion even to their own. So the left is just less likely to use derision than the right so you hear the term used more.
