Anybody have good recommendations for a gaming laptop (for development work)? After about a 10-year run with mostly Macs I've just gotten super frustrated with the lack of support everywhere for the Apple Silicon and random issues with installing packages and want to set up a dual boot system. But I'd like to get it right and not end up with another workstation that only does half of what I need it to do.

@h_thoreson yeah got some strong opinions here. The two must haves are extremely solid worry free thermal performance, and two NVMe slots.A lot of gaming laptop CPUs are setup to spend their life bouncing off TjMax and constantly thermally throttling. But that kills performance, sometimes substantially. You want to find a laptop you can undervolt slightly and never thermally throttle. I bought a Lenovo Legion in 2019 because they took thermals seriously and that appears to have continued. 1/2

@h_thoreson My old gaming laptop had one NVMe and one SATA, I put Linux on the latter but it was really slow building e.g. Android from source. I gave up trying to use it; might work ok for smaller projects. If you can afford it, don't ride the struggle bus with SATA or with trying to dual boot a single drive. Again, latest Legion models deliver here. I got a pro 7i, core i9, RTX 4900, it slaps. B&H might still have them on sale for a substantial discount.Happy to answer any questions. 2/2
