I went in to #Wicked knowing as little as possible. I listened to some of the songs 20 years ago (and from time to time since then), but didn't watch or read about the musical. I had a vague idea that it's backstory to the Oz movie and offers "the other side" to the Wicked Witch. It's great! It's based on the book, so the story is solid, it's based on a stage musical, so the music is solid, the film adaptation is not a thin translation from stage, it's a fully cinematic film based on the stage material.Loved the cameos by musical legends, loved the references to the 1939 film. We watched it the night before. This film on its own works great as a prequel to the original film, but I'm really looking forward to Part 2 a year from now.

I went in as spoiler-free as I could and it was awesome. If you want to discuss plot points and character details, please hide behind a CW to give others a chance to do the same.

Watched the LEGO trailer after we came home. Cool!Do not watch trailers if you don't want twists or the grand finale spoiled. But you knew that. Trailers really suck these days.

Am I remembering wrong that trailers in the 80s were allowed to be just "he's an alcoholized former district attorney. he's a dog with three legs. together, they fight crime", and that was it, after watching five minutes of the movie you'd know strictly more than you knew from the trailer?

@clacke Trailers are the modern version of TL;DR -- people cannot be bothered to spend more than a tok tik to watch something....Consume, consume, consume ...

@amszmidt On the other hand, the movies are now 3 h instead of 1.75 h. I can't quite blame people for wanting the Cliff's Notes. But they didn't have to put it in the trailer!

@clacke I read somewhere that People (as in the A/B tested data driven measured to hell and back by marketing and sales people) spend more money on movies if they know what they're in for. Can't remember where though, it was a couple of years ago now.

@badsynthesis Makes sense. Gotta play the market safe when you're sinking 200 MUSD into every movie.

@clacke I remember them the same way. Also, I'd watch that movie.

I recall a friend recommended me to watch The Thirteenth Floor. "it's great, but I can't tell you more than that" I found it at the DVD renting shop I used to go to, read what it said on the DVD case and was not impressed. but I trusted my friend's judgment, and didn't regret it. I could even understand why he couldn't tell me more, and why the short description on the DVD case was so bland.I wonder what a trailer for it, made to current standards, would be like...
