I’ve finally caved and wrote an auto moderator for Mastodon that can take care of some reports automatically.Running it manually for now to see if it works as intended, but I think this will be a net positive for us. Watch this space 👀 #mastoadmin

It’s very much written to our own and environment (e.g. it assumes local user reports are somwhat trustworthy), so probably not very applicable elsewere, but it *is* configurable. It’s also intentionally limited and defensive:- ONLY there to handle spam- will ONLY take action against non-local users- will NOT take actions against users that have followers from the local instance- will require a certain amount of reports / local reports / reported posts / duplicated content#mastoadmin

Oh, and it will also block reported users that were suspended on their home instance. The main reasoning is that depending on my workload (and silly things like sleep and time zones), I may only see a spam wave 12+ hours after it has started, when many of the users involved would be trivial to block given good / sufficient reports.#mastoadmin

The auto moderator script is helping a lot already. Have been running it manually several times a day, which reduced moderation workload by quite a bit. I think we’ll start running it automated as soon as I make the logging a bit better (JSON, and add timestamps).#mastoadmin
