Imagine if web.dev, the web development blog by the Chrome team, had the latest coolest tech like … RSS feeds for their blog. Then you could just subscribe to https://web.dev/series/baseline-newly-available and get notified about newly availble CSS features …(To add insult to injury, they load their list of blog posts via JS, so you can't even point a good feed reader at the /blog/ page and have it scrape for new posts. Eww.)

I'm home sick, so I'm naturally reading HTML specs and composing my latest rant at how frustratingly half-baked HTML5 is, particularly with respect to forms and inputs.(I have like three drafts of this rant lying about, time to add a fourth …)

Imagine wondering “When’s the next time that Christmas will be a Tuesday/Wednesday, for those sweet optimal public holidays (Jan 1st being exactly a week later)?”Now imagine asking, idk, google or Siri or god forbid an actual calendar, instead of turning to the best tool for the job: systemd.#systemd #linuxadmin #linux #systemd

“Harry, did you put the Olson database into your init system?”, Dumbledore asked calmly.

(that’s two “Dumbledore asked calmly” posts today, which led to me getting informed that the movie that gave rise to this meme came out 19 years ago, which is WRONG wrong wrong)

@lambisio Yeah, well, I’m feeling conflicted bth. On the one hand, yes, systemd is eating everything. On the other hand, this is for systemd-timers, and they are just so *nice*.

If you’re ever in an interview for a software job and are asked what happens internally when you open google.com, then a new answer has just dropped:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atcqMWqB3hw

I’ve finally caved and wrote an auto moderator for Mastodon that can take care of some reports automatically.Running it manually for now to see if it works as intended, but I think this will be a net positive for us. Watch this space 👀 #mastoadmin

It’s very much written to our own and environment (e.g. it assumes local user reports are somwhat trustworthy), so probably not very applicable elsewere, but it *is* configurable. It’s also intentionally limited and defensive:- ONLY there to handle spam- will ONLY take action against non-local users- will NOT take actions against users that have followers from the local instance- will require a certain amount of reports / local reports / reported posts / duplicated content#mastoadmin

Oh, and it will also block reported users that were suspended on their home instance. The main reasoning is that depending on my workload (and silly things like sleep and time zones), I may only see a spam wave 12+ hours after it has started, when many of the users involved would be trivial to block given good / sufficient reports.#mastoadmin

The auto moderator script is helping a lot already. Have been running it manually several times a day, which reduced moderation workload by quite a bit. I think we’ll start running it automated as soon as I make the logging a bit better (JSON, and add timestamps).#mastoadmin

@mraerino Klarer Fall von „der schnellste Weg eine Lösung zu finden, ist, laut zu behaupten, dass es keine Lösung gibt, und auf hilfreiche Nerds zu warten“. Danke!

maybe finally reached the breaking point in moving as many remaining groups and convos from Threema to Signal:I have to swap out my phone due to a failing display, and while Signal imports its 6GB data backup without a hitch, Threema just … dies at 3GB, probably due to lack of memory. Which is just … astounding. And bad. And I'll have to delete some data, which, wtf.

What I'm missing, kinda, is an email client that shows me email threads as a Kanban board.
