Fam, I did a bad thing. I have a single solitary windows PC that I keep around for those occasions that I need to run the shitty firmware update app for $UNNAMED_IOT_COMPONENT. Friends, stop reading if you are sensitive; I left it turned on unattended for several weeks.Last time I needed it I did a fresh install of windows 10, then installed and tested all the fucking awful little update apps needed to install firmware-that-actually-works on these IoT modules that come broken from the factory. Yesterday, I needed to update a batch of devices. Something called Onedrive had abducted all my desktop files and refused to let me access any of the firmware files. Programs that used to run from a USB stick now fail to run, suggesting I try compatibility mode under which they also fail to run. This full screen news feed window keeps popping up that i can’t close or turn off. Something called “copilot” has taken over my dock bar.I think I have a ransomware infection.

@Unixbigot If you think that's bad, wait until the ransomware upgrades itself to the even more intrusive "Windows 11".
