We are thinking of changing the tagline of FediForum to:"The unconference for the people who move the social web forward."Instead of "move the Fediverse forward".Thoughts?

@fediforum By "social web" do you mean "social world wide web" or "social web of people"? I interpret it as the former (as would most, I'd assume). The Fediverse is way more than just web pages and applications that run in a browser. So the name "social web" is inaccurate in my eyes.

@gabek Do you have a better term to suggest? "Social web" is a term that has been used for a long time: e.g. the WikiPedia page was started 15 years ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_web

@fediforum The social internet perhaps? The social web says the only thing on the internet are web browsers, and it's incorrect.

@gabek What (interoperable) social applications would you say are on the internet, but not the web? And reasonably within scope of FediForum?

@fediforum That's not what I'm trying to say. I'm saying the phrase "Social Web" says that social interop *only* and *exclusively* exists on the web. It's literally in the name.

@fediforum It says I can't use a native mobile app to access the Fediverse. It says I can't use a TV app to watch a PeerTube video. It says there are no native desktop clients that are able to access the Fediverse. Web only.

Hi @gabek @fediforum,I read web in the sense of the 'w' in https://w3.org.It is about browsers just as much as astronomy about telescopes. What comes to your mind, beyond that?

@mro @fediforum Nothing. "World Wide Web" is what I'm talking about. The thing that lives exclusively in web browsers. That's a very limited view, especially with mobile apps being so big.

@gabek @mro @fediforum IMHO you are taking a quite narrow view of the term "web" (I sympathize) but I don't think it reflects common use of the term much any more. The term inflation may have started with "web services" (ca 2004) where no browser was ever in the picture. I went to dWebCamp a few months ago, and (to me dismay) basically nobody talked about the WWW in the browser.

@j12t @mro @fediforum The web means the web. That's just what it is. When you use a command line tool, you're not browsing the web or using a web app. I think most people would agree.
