I'm watching the Next.js keynote and they say that Next is "server-first" now.That means if you want to use their React frontend framework they're pushing you to use Javascript on the server, too.I complain about this a lot, but we really need to make sure that Javascript doesn't take over every piece of every stack for every application just because you want to use React (or whatever frontend framework you choose). Frontend and backend decisions should be made separately and you should never be forced into one because you had preferences on the other.

I find myself having less tolerance helping people with Owncast. I want to be helpful and cheery and encouraging and pleasant to talk to, but I know I'm not anymore. Doing this solo has certainly taken a toll on me where I notice my personality changing and I don't like it.

While I acknowledge Twitter is trash, and has been for some time, it's still hard watching it be taken over by a troll.Twitter changed my life and gave me a lot of opportunities to make friends, build products, and be a part of some awesome communities for a time.I no longer actively use it, but it's still hard knowing that something I loved has turned into this, and the real destruction has only just begun.

My favorite part about the "Tesla engineers go to Twitter's HQ to review code" thing, aside from the obvious absurdity, is it implies you have to be at some specific physical location to read a text file.Like down the hall on the right, that's where the code is.

I have this label maker that I don't use that often, but handful of times a year I need to label something. It's been around for years and is always there when I need it.Today I went to use it and it no longer works. Just dead. Swapped out the batteries but nothing. I guess it deserves the rest.

It seems Owncast will soon have to stop accepting donations.Our fiscal host, Open Source Collective, set a new rule that there must be two representatives for a project and sadly, as it stands, Owncast has been in tough times and it's been just me as the only consistently active member of the team.There is no #2. This is a sad day. "We hope that this is not a surprise. At Open Source Collective we believe that building active communities and distributing responsibility is the best way to sustain a project, and we've built a platform that enables us to support you in doing that."

I feel bad when an individual, for whatever specific reasons, just can't get Owncast running. Either due to confusion, or their environment, or whatever. I always try to help, but when it turns into aggressive "Owncast doesn't work" attacks it's just not productive to engage anymore.

@shadowfacts I deleted my mastodon.social account so I'm not sure where I am in that mix. I searched my email and as early as 2018 it seems I was already talking about running my own instance. It took me four years to actually do it.
