Came across this today on Bluesky, by @tomgauld.bsky.social. Have to admit, it does sum up the present situation. We are all quite medieval when it comes down to it, lots of room for both kingdoms to grow (as long as Meta doesn’t nuke ours and the blockchain VCs don’t blow up theirs).

@ricmac @tomgauld.bsky.social I've been wanting bluesky to simplify the bridging of their accounts like threads does with federating. create a setting any user can turn on and make it visible to all that they are bridging their accounts. but then I realized mastodon could and should do that too. maybe they could "shake hands" publicly and both do that? #bridgyfed cc @snarfed.org

@wjmaggos @ricmac @tomgauld.bsky.social @snarfed.org Concepts "ours" and "theirs" are on this diagram/map.Where is "mine", as in "my network", "my human connections", irrespective of how it is mediated/implemented.We are not done in the architecture/design space, yet.

@wjmaggos that's a very interesting idea, is there a GitHub issue yet? Obviously goes for things other than Mastodon as well that could implement something standard between each other.@ricmac @tomgauld.bsky.social @snarfed.org

@wjmaggos @ricmac @tomgauld.bsky.social @snarfed.org Threads isn't bridging, it's using ActivityPub, an open standard. BlueSky uses their own protocol.
