Hope my friends in the US will manage to stave off fascism for another four years tomorrow.If you do (fingers crossed), please don’t stop there. Do whatever needs to be done to change the system—bring the whole damn thing to a halt if you need to—so you don’t find yourselves in the same place again in four years.The worst thing that could happen is that Trump wins. The second worst thing that could happen is that Harris wins and y’all go “right, job done, time to hibernate for four years”.

@aral Yea, this is the big issue with liberals here in the states. They don’t see the system as the problem, but rather the leaders of it. So I’m worried Harris will be a seat warmer the next 4-8yrs for the next, younger and smarter version of Trump

@aral in order to make the real changes you allude to, we would need to have both the House and Senate in addition to the presidency. The last time that happened was for a few unanticipated months during Obama’s presidency, which was used to pass the ACA.

@aral Nah, Trump winning is the second worst thing. The worst is if Trump loses but throws a coup - and succeeds this time.But yes, we're hoping Harris wins too. And as for change, I'd say the best case feasible scenario would be that Trump dies shortly after the election, the Republican party, without a cult leader, falls apart into several parties that split the vote, leading to a blue wave that can then pass amendments and bring about actual change.

The Dems have been living off being the lesser of two evils for fifty years, they've demonstrated this round that they'd rather lose the election than not commit the evil of genocide. A Dem victory is a victory for continuity of the existing system.
