       Elon Musk doesnt care about the economic hardship of normal people in america.  In fact, he could potentially benefit from it.This is, as usual, about shielding his assets from taxes... And he feels like he has the best bet with the republicans.

       ?? Most of his wealth is in the form of stock in companies that need to sell products and services to consumers. It would be directly in his personal financial interest for​ normal people in America to have enough disposable income to buy teslas and starlink and flamethrowers and verified badges on twitter. He made all of teslas patents available to his competitors for free to grow the electric vehicle sector at the expense of his own sales because he understood it was better to have a smaller slice of a bigger pie than the opposite of that The least you can say for the guy is that macro effects aren't lost on him.
