Is it just a running joke now that the information "redacted" in SCP stories is totally random with zero in-universe logic? From what I can see most of what's "redacted" are details that the authors couldn't be bothered to think up.At first it made me angry but now I just find it ### redacted ###

@bhawthorne SCP is a kind of collaborative SF universe with hundreds of writers and a standard format. Each anomaly is presented in the form of a report from a shadowy powerful organization whose goal is to hide the existence of anomalies from the public.Kind of like the "file" part of the X-files... but not just about aliens.

@futurebird I think it's a running joke but to me it's all about making the SCP universe seem "larger" than it is… like, the whole idea of SCP is "the universe is bigger and more mysterious than you think" so leaving all these details blanked prevents the fiction, which is about *explaining* the unexplainable, from killing the mystery… you never feel like you see the whole story… also makes extending the universe easier because new writers can always fit more fanfic into the blanks

@futurebird @bhawthorne if you haven't read There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm, it's basically a novelization of a bunch of SCP concepts — and it is very, very, very good. Highly recommend!
