If streetsblog made their own fediverse server (instead of just a mirror @streetsblognyc ) they would get SO MUCH traffic here and they could probably charge a bunch of urban planning nerds like $10 a month to have accounts on that server since it would be such a prestigious domain for your @@(If we call a twitter handle an @ then fedi handles are @@s )Organizations just aren't thinking clearly about the opportunities here at all IMO. How do we change this?

@futurebird @streetsblognyc I've asked some of the social media people my org in the fairly recent past why we're still on Twitter, and they still insist it's the place they have to be to reach people. I think from a corporate IT policy perspective, they wouldn't really know *how* to think about a Fediverse app they ran themselves.

@futurebird @streetsblognyc if I had to guess, itโs that the cost and legal liability of running a social media instance in the US vastly outstrip the capacity of an outfit like streetsblog, and the benefits of doing so would be extremely marginal. probably this blog post is enough to scare off any executive who might be considering it. https://denise.dreamwidth.org/91757.html

@futurebird @streetsblognyc It's not their own server but @streetsblogmass have a good presence on here - maybe they could apply some peer pressure? ๐

@futurebird @streetsblognyc hmm, I suppose you start making money with the good idea and then other people pay attention to the idea because they are interested making money also. *waves hand* Broadly.
