The nice thing about doing this (almost) off season: you book one bed in a room that sleeps 4, and you instead get the whole house for yourself because no one else has booked a bedThe less nice thing: no one is there to share your adventure with.

I forgot to post a summary yesterday, so here it goes: I left the canal of the two seas and had to use roads (not oycleways) to connect to the Roger Lapébie cycleway (built on the site of a former railway). This part was also a bit hilly but I did ok. The cycleway then is mosly a slight downhill. This morning I crossed the city of Bordeaux to join the Bordeaux-Lacanau cycleway. Basically, dozen of kilometers ofstraight and flat road accross the pine forest.

I also had a problem with my luggage, one of the velcro straps has failed under the load (what I get for using cheap company swag instead of the proper thing). Anyway, bought some straps and sandows to better secure things and now I don't have to stop every 2 kilometers to reattach it (but I will still stop a bit more and go a bit slower than the first few days, because my legs are starting to complain)

Well, after a while the sun was out, the air wasless humid, and doing 80km today was ok after all. Not the most exciting day, straight lines in the pine forest all day long, with one (1) 90° right turn. The only interesting thing were the observation towers for early detection of forest fire, but you can't even climb up (and why would you, you would only see more pine trees)

So:I did reach the ocean! This morning was more cycling in the woods, with humid weather and more worryingly, hunters firing shots all around. I didn't get hurt. One of them told me I would ride faster when they start firing.Arrived in Le Verdon just in time to board the ferry (I had planned to take a break and didn't closely check the timetables). Inthe ferry I met another cyclist who I had encountered in the morning already. He's doing a 3 day trip, we may meet again tomorrow

I stopped after my planned 80km, planning to end the day there, but couldn't find any hotel at reasonable prices and didn't feel like sleeping in a camping mobil-home as I did yesterday. So I went on for another 20km until the next town. Met the same guy again, he has better planning than me and is sleeping around here as well (in a tent, which I'm not doing this time because I don't want the extra weight of all the needed stuff). So we did the last couple kilometers together, that was nice

Well,I went out to eat and there was a single restaurant open in town (another problem of doing this off-season) so I met that guy again, of course. It was ok, we are both tired of our respective journeys and left early. We may meet again tomorrow since we have basically the same plan. Also, did you know that France has this thing where they put the weirdest ornaments on roundabouts?

Staying in La Rochelle tonight.Dinner at the Minato restaurant on the port. I was a bit suspicious as the menu offers sushi, ramen, and also the local mussels with french fries. But the kimchi yakisoba was delicious. Also, the receptionist at the b&b hotel spontaneously said that I could put my bike in my hotel room (I think itws not seeded and it will be fine in the parking lot, but still it's very nice to allow that for people with more expensive bikes)A nice afternoon and evening overall!

Cool facts about wind turbines: you can easily approach them much closer than the Golfech Nuclear Power Plant. And enjoy the wooshing sound

I had planned to do La Rochelle to rNantes in two days, but I didn't find an hotel in the middle, continued going further and further, and in the end I was only 32km away from Nantes. So I went all the way.Staying with a former colleague, so today is a quieter day, I'm riding only during the afternoon

Made it to Joué sur Erdre. The former colleague who hosted me in Nantes explained the nicest path to take. I took a shortcut on the road today as I was a bit tired and started late, and didn't want to end after sunset (I'm not equipped for that). Starting tomorrow I can more closely follow the cycleway and see where it brings me!

On the backside of many roadsigns since I've left home, some spanish flat earther has written the name of his facebook profile. Not sure what to think of it. It means he made at least the same trip I did, but stopping every few hundred meters to do this.

Arrived in Chateaubriant. Besides the castle, I found this rather interesting building, probably from the 1950s-70s? I have no idea whodesigned it. Interesting pattern of repeating semicylindrical columns with glassbricks, all similar but different. Corridors connecting them also have windows on both sides

Also forgot to mention (if anyone really cares): following the official cycleway means taking numerous detours and avoiding high traffic roads. Google Maps doesn't want to do that and always offers shortcuts (where you may or may not be killed by fast moving motorized vehicles). Asa result, the remaining distance counter isn't quite accurate, and I don't have any better tracking, so that's all you'll get

176km to go (as mentionned yesterday: Google takes the shortest path, but the cycleway doesn't, so it's likely twice as much in reality)
