@rolle So; why did they go to #Bluesky instead of the #Fediverse?

@rolle @realcaseyrollins Building freedom takes time and effort. Keep working on things like Fediverse governance [1] and sooner or later there'll be new mass arrivals in the free world. And it does look like there's a bump up of about half a million in the last week [2] - though there was spam that might bias those estimates.[1] https://fediverse-governance.github.io[2] https://fediverse.observer/dailystats

They hire professional people to do PR and marketing. And unlike Mastodon, Bluesky's front end doesn't look like an Asus router's web interface.

@diego @rolle @realcaseyrollins the other day I was trying to explain why someone’s hashtagged posts didn’t show up in another person’s hashtag search. And, well, yeah… (tricky to solve)And then you get to the issue of a profile showing no posts when opening it, despite the person having posted (which would actually be fixable with a bit of effort).

@diego @rolle @realcaseyrollins unfortunately there just doesn’t seem to be much effort going on to fix some very fundamental usability problems. Multiplied by a culture that is sometimes hostile to things like making money. We end up not really having the ‘cool people’ party.

Yeah, the hashtag thing rips my knickers. Like 90% of people will just walk out of an instance when they see no hashtag turnover. Good front ends engage with the most impatient users, that's how they get exponential growth.I'm hoping to get to 200 instances and pleroma does not generate hashtags, therefore I have been forced into building a system myself that will do it.

I'm using the relay functionality to send all posts from all instances to a java back end, where they get chucked into elastic search. By just forwarding a bunch of the API urls to the backend rather than pleroma I should get full text search and hashtag list generation using all instance posts. I'll also get the backend to generate the instance timelines. No need to modify pleroma code. Should work for mastodon as well.
