If an ant is in the wrong place not doing the things that need to be done, or just not applying her particular skills effectively, someone will pick her up or lead her by the mandible, carry her to where she belongs and can be helpful and needed. I do envy them at times, you know?Like if you found a construction worker struggling to do press conferences you'd just pick them up & take them to the work site. Or maybe you'd get picked up and plopped down somewhere where you were more needed.

Ants see most problems in terms of sorting things to their correct place. Seeds go in the seed pile. Trash goes in the trash pile. Girls with big mandibles go where things need to be bitten, girls with little mandibles go were a tiny touch is required.

@futurebird Hmmm... I do see potential problems with that scenario for humans. For example, the senate race in Nebraska where a blue collar guy is running for Senate and could make a big difference if by some miracle he wins.

@futurebird when I first encountered usenet, I often thought that if it was curated and moderated in a sensible fashion, it would naturally attract people to the news groups where they could be most helpful. Later, as blogs came to replace (sort of) usenet, I hoped somehow that might happen with blogs, but inside I always knew there was never much chance of that.

@futurebird that happened when I started to play rugby. I thought I was a back passing and running but in every ruck or maul I wanted to go help so I was them plucked and put in as a forward where I felt very much more at home. Aren't ants just wonderful at organising themselves though.
