@stux @GottaLaff I go there from time to time because there are people who I miss from Twitter that have migrated over to bluesky. Mostly authors. The big difference is that Mastodon feels like a community while bluesky feels less interactive.

@OldAndCranky @futurebird Tomorrow I am starting a project to search out and put together resources for people who are asking your questions. Right now it’s just a hashtag: #WeAreSafeHavens - we have to start somewhere.

@futurebird my daughter was born in 1985 - the world she grew up in was dramatically different from the world I grew up in (60s & 70s). I apologized for the state of the world, a lot.Having children now … phew … a tough call. I don’t think I could, knowing the likely future they will face. But I am not you! We also don’t want people who will be great parents to new beings to stop having kids! Follow your gut instincts - you will know what’s best for you and your husband.

@futurebird the time investment is huge and doesn’t get shorter as they get older, it’s just different - less physical and more intellectual and emotional.I don’t regret a moment - and it was the most difficult thing I’ve done.

@futurebird I stopped to rest on a bench during my afternoon walk with #SunshineSadie - the heat is oppressive even in the Berkshires.I caught a glimpse of an ant and followed its path, then I saw more and more and more. I watched them until Sadie got impatient.I might be turning into an ant fan 🐜

@futurebird I’ve been popping on to bluesky from time to time and their vibe is angrier and snarkier and bitter. Here, people are often, justifiably, angry from time to time but it’s not the overall vibe. There are people, mostly writers, who I like to keep track of on bsky for new work but I often feel icky when I close the app.Fedi is my social media home.

@futurebird I like that approach. I’m glad I tend to observe before interacting - I came from twitter with some angry, confrontational habits. Now I can learn about ants and birds and smile at good dogs and meet awesome chill folks.

@futurebird I absolutely noticed and wondered that no one else mentioned it. I rarely keep the sound on when he talks so I thought it might be his version of normal for the word.

@futurebird Ah, that explains a conversation I had with one of my walking friends the other day. She’s a retired historian/academic in her late 80s and does nothing online.

@NorcalGma2 We sure have seen a lot of changes during our 66+ years. The thought of going back to those times is horrifying. Forced to be mothers at 12! 14! 16! with no recourse. I’m always moved by the courage in which you’ve lived a not-always easy life and the ways you’ve scattered blessings around you.

@NorcalGma2 You are so right, we all have challenges and to some extent I think we really do need them. But. Some of the challenges we’ve faced should *never* have existed. I hope we can create a future like that for all beings.

@futurebird It’s a key to the door latch - I am curious about why/who chose the term. The term has been around since the 13th century, so a bit before the modern phenomenon.https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/latch

@futurebird No dishwasher - I like washing dishes by hand in the warm soapy water. No coffee maker either - I make a version of cowboy coffee.
