@BrodieOnLinux I really hope python2 isn't still default on OpenSUSE, that would mean at this point, Slackware is ahead of them 😅

@BrodieOnLinux maybe I’m missing the point of the post, but I’m assuming this is another poor person who is being bitten by a dev setting their ‘#!’ line to something with python instead of something with python3. In many distros, python will always mean python2, and python3 is used to represent all python 3.0 and onward (so far). Some distros make python a symlink to whatever their system version of python3 is, and it seems the dev expects that behavior.

@BrodieOnLinux #openSUSE maintainer of Python speaking: no, Python 2.* is not default Python on #Tumbleweed, because there is no such as thing as default #Python. In accordance with https://peps.python.org/pep-0394/ we DON’T create a symlink from `/usr/bin/python3` to `/usr/bin/python`. If you create it, you are on your own to keep all pieces together, and please make it to `/usr/local/bin/python` so as not confuse the rest of the system.

@BrodieOnLinux And yes, unfortunately, because of #GIMP we have not been able to remove Python 2.* from our distro yet (and PyGtk, but that’s a lesser problem).

@mcepl That's pretty much the reason Fedora hasn't dropped it yet, they plan to do so in Fedora 41. In case you're unaware GIMP 3 has entered RC 1 so it's likely that problem will soon be resolved

@BrodieOnLinux Don’t worry, that I am not following #GIMP developments with breathless suspense.
