Students are more successful in any subject, including maths, when they can bring their entire selves to learning. That is especially true of their own language and all that brings along with it. Deprioritising te reo Māori at the expense of maths is just another way this government is further disadvantaging Māori and making them less likely to be successful. But not pākehā of course. This is what systemic racism looks like.#NZPol #racism #WorstGovermentEver https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/529086/te-reo-maori-teacher-training-cut-by-30m-to-fund-maths-resources

@BigD> I'm a pakeha and have Maori Grandchildren. I'm sickened by this white man rules indoctrination ... My grandchildren deserve far better. We all do.Like, you I don't have whakapapa Māori in my ancestry (that we know of), but I do have Māori relatives. 100% agree. It continues to shock me that so many Māori can find a better life in Australia - *Australia*! - than in their traditional homelands. @paulhellyer

@strypey @BigD @paulhellyer I am Pākehā too. I have no Māori whakapapa. I have no Māori mokopuna, or any Māori relatives whatsoever. However, as Tangata Tiriti, I am likewise horrified at how this government is treating - and encouraging/emboldening the public treatment of - Tangata Whenua.I wish I knew how I could help change these things

@Phil_Tanner> I wish I knew how I could help change these thingsThat feeling of horror and helplessness is part of the goal of their shock and awe strategy. There are no easy solutions. But I find that making any change at a collective level starts with building relationships, and mutual education.(I'm sticking to general thoughts so as to restrain myself from giving unsolicited advice : P )@BigD @paulhellyer
