I’ve said before I wanted a new mountain bike with front suspensions but I’ve been feeling differently recently.I just love my old bike! 🚲 It’s lasted 20 years and still works fine. Mostly original except for the gear shifters, brakes and brake levers, handle grips, saddle and pedals. It’s amazing how good engineering lasts a lifetime!

@drmambobob I had a bike from the early 90s that I rode until I was hit by a car riding it (nothing serious, but with an old bike, best not to take chances moving forward). The one weak spot that I would have changed if I had kept it was the wheels. The spokes were becoming very loose (stretched over decades I presumed) and when other people rode it, they immediately felt the sloppiness of them whereas I had ridden it all that time and never could tell.

I've obviously had to replace the tyres over the years, but the originals were these really nice grey and beige tyres. It would be nice to find a similar set of retro style two-toned tyres.

@keraba I think it will cost almost as much as buying a new mountain bike. I'll keep it rigid for the time being. The fork was bent in the move to the UK (I got it fixed), so it probably doesn't technically have the structural integrity it once had - but it's held for ten years like this and survived mountain bike trails...

@drmambobob I had a similar experience a few years ago when I became dissatisfied with the electric guitar I've had more then 30 years. The sound was a bit thin, but the more I played other guitars the more appreciated how mine feels to play. I ended up just getting the pickups replaced. Big win!
