Reducing our sense of division is essential for having a better country, while winning elections is all about amping that up. But we have only expanded the length of political campaigns over time. Another huge contributor to our broken culture. #uspol #LiberalValues

@wjmaggos I agree in principle, but tell me, how do you think you're doing in furthering that principle, when you support a candidate and political party whose values have, over the last two decades, become diametrically opposed to #LiberalValues; the party of authoritarians and fascists who support censorship, price controls, and economic slavery; who have been destroying the US economy for four years and making a general mockery of #uspol by puppeting a geriatric alzheimers patient and pretending he's the most powerful man on earth... And the only reason you have to support them is #OrangeManBad.Tell me, how that incentivizes any of what you just said in this thread? The Democrat party doesn't want a better country. They don't give a shit about reducing division. By supporting them no matter what, you're proving that division is good for them. The only thing you're incentivizing is that they keep propagandizing you with one bogeyman after another to keep you scared and strategic-voting them back into power.Suppose, god forbid, that one of these psychotic Democrats finally succeeds in murdering Donald Trump. How long do you think it'll be before the Party sets up some other "enemy" for you to hate, so that you keep voting for them? When you say you support Harris, Biden, Walz, or any puppet of the corrupt Party masters, it gives lie to your colorful words about "reducing our sense of division". They thrive on division. Their speeches are the most divisive ever spoken by a President or Presidential candidate. And you're telling them you're cool with that.

@ryan perhaps your rant is more influenced by the divisive energy Trump has brought to politics than the people you're complaining about. he says the Dems stole the election and are intentionally overrunning the country with horrible immigrants. etc etc. if he's correct, then I get why'd you say what you just did. if he's wrong, then I'm right and he's the divisive one. we're really stuck when our understandings of reality are so out of sync.

@ryan@bemrose.social @wjmaggos Oh great, another fake anarchist "both sides" uniparty conspiracist. (but also likely Russian troll pretending to be to spread division)Block you, block your entire domain (just you).

@chiclet @ryan I'd argue against doing that. he's not abusive. unlike on platforms with algos, we can all coexist without feeling propagandized by stuff we really don't like (as long as they don't tag us or pollute hashtags).

@wjmaggos @ryan@bemrose.social I suggest using the ban hammer liberally.Propaganda isn't just about the posts you see, it's pretty clear from the history of this account (Feb 2024) and being an instance with only 4 users, plus the content of nonsense solely about the Democratic party... this particular user account is just the tip.I am not fooled by attempts to disguise as "civil conversation".

@chiclet I get how his account looks but I've known him (online only) for years. You and I probably do have very different thoughts on how to use this medium tho.

@wjmaggos I understand that completely. That's the great thing about the fediverse, we can handle moderation according to our own standards. We all inevitably will end up in our own echo chambers and bubbles. I personally don't mind that, because I don't think social media is actually all that good for society or good for the free exchange of ideas. We can take what we want from social media, but under no obligation to listen.

@wjmaggos So to be clear, your reason for voting with a party that has abandoned your #LiberalValues is because you believe corporate media's lies about "no evidence", and because you believe Trump originated the argument that the election was fraudulent (not true, FWIW - I knew by following the election on the morning of Nov 4, long before Trump ever opined on it). You've already shown yourself to be resistent to any rational argument or evidence to contradict your chosen position. So I guess that means there really is no hope for "reducing our sense of division", when people won't even come to the table and examine the evidence.

@ryan that's it. I'm a Dem stooge. it can't be that I have spent a reasonable person's amount of time looking into it and decided differently. approaching politics the way you do is totally not divisive and clearly the most likely way to convince people to fairly consider your arguments. they should accept your characterization of me instead of perusing the ample amount of posts I make here and my show.I'll say it again. in person etc, Trump supporters are way nicer than on shows and socials
