If I ever need to go unground and be a criminal I will offer a service that turns your natural death into a scene of mystery— no one shall be implicated in your death but it will raise many questions and be very confusing and suspicious in whatever ways might be most amenable to the you, the client. It could be as simple as a credible pile of passports with alternate identities- or much more paranormal goings on. The ultimate memorial is to become an enigma!

@futurebird 🤔 Can you offer a locked-room mystery with no possible culprits? I think I'd enjoy that

@futurebird I just assumed you were talking about a mixture of insects implying inconsistent times/places/manners of death, but apparently I've typecast you and you're actually even weirder and more complex than I imagined!

@futurebird one that I would pay a lot for is: every year a book by a different well-known author is mailed to my survivors. it is signed and includes a note obliquely referencing a 1992 event on Svalbard.

@futurebird I wrote a short story in college about an old man living in a "smart home" who overrides the safeties to get it to kill him — at first, though easily dodged obvious attempts on his life, but with escalating complexity and obfuscation as each party grows more spry and interested in the game.Until it ends.

@futurebird Ambrose Bierce disappeared somewhere in Mexico and no one's sure what ever happened to him. Some biographers think he committed suicide. But throughout his life he collected newspaper clippings about mysterious disappearances. Did he engineer his own?
