Been doing a bit of research for my TTG 'Raid Metal' which is based in the Sub Orbital Machine universe. Came across this while looking at the work of Jan Buragay, who did the illustrations for the rule book. Had to pick it up.#ttrpg #boardgames #mecha #mechs

@iamgerardthomas I quite like Gamma Wolves, but if you're into that mode of gaming, but would like to see something a little more lightweight, because there are some weirdly crunchy mechanics in Gamma Wolves, check out the game that Ash Barker did after that. Steel Rift. I actually prefer it fairly significantly because it flows a bit better and I don't need the overhead.#SteelRift #wargameshttps://www.steelrift.com/

@lextenebris Seen Steel Rift previously but Jan's artwork was a draw for grabbing this book. I'm with you on lightweight, I have am increasingly low tolerance for games with lots of crunch... probably a byproduct of getting into gaming through things like Ogre

@iamgerardthomas Crunch definitely has its place, but there are a lot of competitors for the crunchy side of the world. Some sort of high-speed, low-drag option is almost always my preference.Gamma Wolves does have amazing art. Totally on board with that. If you haven't seen it already, you also might want to look at Lancer.

@iamgerardthomas You should. It is pretty crunchy, but it's crunchy in a way that the Powered by the Apocalypse games are crunchy. You wouldn't think that a fiction-first, strongly narrative game could be that crunchy, but when mated with a pretty detailed mech combat system, the complexities multiply. Note that is not a negative or a strike against. It's really well done. But on top of that, the art is absolutely beautiful. Frankly, some of my favorite mecha art ever, and I own a lot of mecha games.https://massifpress.com/artwork#TTRPG #wargame #Lancer

@iamgerardthomas Likewise, if you haven't seen Eldritch Automata yet, this might be something you want to put on your radar. It recently completed its Kickstarter and is in the pre-order phase, but like Lancer, it's extremely heavy on some interesting art and does some unusual things mechanically. I'm very much looking forward to it.https://www.gehennagaming.com/eldritch-automata#TTRPG #wargame #EldritchAutomata

@lextenebris Picked up a copy… purely for research purposes 😉
