Bit the bullet and picked this up. Partly for the nostalgia of Starblazer and partly because I am thinking of using something like this to help develop and drive visual scenarios for #suborbitalmachine#scifi #scifigaming #ttg #scifiart #comics

It arrived and was worth it for the massive amount of Starblazer comic panels alone! Will I review it? Nah, too much there to even contemplate such a thing#MastoArt #Art #FediArt #comic #ComicArt #TTRPG #RPG #ArtistOnMastodon #SciFiArt #SciFi

Been doing a bit of research for my TTG 'Raid Metal' which is based in the Sub Orbital Machine universe. Came across this while looking at the work of Jan Buragay, who did the illustrations for the rule book. Had to pick it up.#ttrpg #boardgames #mecha #mechs

@lextenebris Seen Steel Rift previously but Jan's artwork was a draw for grabbing this book. I'm with you on lightweight, I have am increasingly low tolerance for games with lots of crunch... probably a byproduct of getting into gaming through things like Ogre

@lextenebris Could not agree more, like wise with putting together the rules from 3 sources. In short though it's a blend of Alpha Strike, Classic and Destiny, so fast playing like AS but with limb blowing off from Classic and some campaign building. It's pretty cool and my preferred BT game play. I guess they just depend on their Patreon and followers, so don't really 'sell' it as such.

@lextenebris Marketing is not something that comes to most people with no experience with it :) I read enough good things, had most of the rules, picked up a PDF of Destiny and spliced it all into a single PDF… because I can. But what a PIA. I did it though as I found AS strips the character of the game to the point it became a little too generic, you know mechs instead of ‘vehicle type here’; and I just don’t have time or patience for Classic. Did in the late 80’s. Not now.

@lextenebris Yep! I find up to lance level a perfect playing size, so squad level teams. At this size you can keep the personality and (at least with the DFA system) crunch and speed. Larger and it's just another war game. As far as the TTG 'industry'.... most of it looks to me as a justification for making overpriced minis that so easily suck people in; so vanity projects seem like a perfect description.

@lextenebris I am not a fan of Catalyst overall. While they are doing well pushing stuff out, 'stuff' seems to sum a lot of it up. I find most of the minis disappointing and all the rest fodder fuel, not quite Games Workshop level but I am sure if they could, they would.

Well this is one hell of a tome. Picked it up for some research (thanks @lextenebris for the head’s up) and am seriously impressed. One of those things that kinda sets a new bar.#SciFiArt #SciFi #ScienceFiction #ScienceFictionArt #ttrpg #ttg #Lancer

@meticu @lextenebris Easier said than done. They don’t ship to Australia and generally when small companies do, it more than doubles the price. I had that issue with Tankhead… book was something like US$50 and shipping was 60. I am not a fan of Amazon but more often than not, it gives access to things that otherwise we could not get or pay through the nose for if we can.

@lextenebris @meticu Australia is not America - I’ve lived in both. So what you can do there reasonably easily, is a right expensive PIA here. Bought it on Amazon (AU), free Prime shipping and was in my hands the next day. No ships involved :)

I love the idea of #battletech but dislike its inbuilt crunchiness and endless rules creep. Even 'simplified' rules are becoming crunchy. As a #raidmetal adjacent project, I am going to try and adapt the design & play philosophy to BT and see what happens #raidtech#TTRPG #tabletopgames #tabletop #SciFi #ScienceFiction #GameDev

I like a challenge and with the holidays in full swing #raidtech has become a thing. I mean, why not develop two games in tandem....https://iamgerardthomas.com/playforest/raid-tech/ #TTRPG #tabletopgames #tabletop #SciFi #ScienceFiction #GameDev
