Normally I’m a fan of Stadler RS1 trains, but today’s has an uncomfortable high pitch whine from something on board. Noise cancelling earphones get rid of the worst of it, but if I didn’t have those this would be grim for more than 2 hours.

Also having been sat on this train at Gößnitz station for c. 20 mins now, and it having a driver and, as it’s 6 carriages, I presume a train manager somewhere, has either of them thought to make an announcement to explain what’s going on? Ok. Found the Zugchef. Typical DB: explain the situation and they’re ok with it. Like almost all DB staff on ICEs he was understanding. So no fine. Phew. And as I explained it all, I likely saved some other passengers in the same situation as me some hassle.

An important point re. DB: a train manager here *still* has the power to judge your case on its merits.Strictly speaking the train manager could have demanded I buy a new ticket here - I did not have the rules on my side. But that I’m on the wrong train is as a result of a problem DB InfraGo caused. So I have a moral case, and that was enough.
