@happydisciple Indeed. Talgo's design *might* make sense if you need passive tilt or gauge changing. If you don't, it doesn't.

@happydisciple It's also that in Talgo's design there is no real axle as such between the wheels, so that makes moving the wheels for variable gauge easier. And passive tilt works as you can connect the carriages at the top of the sort of wheel frame arrangement.

🤔 The only high speed part of Köln-Berlin is Oebisfelde-Spandau where the line is rated for 250km/hThe Talgo ICE-L is doing just 160km/h here200km/h with the Vectron locomotive should be possible, so something is wrongAnd it is quite bumpy even at this speed... so what's it going to be like at 230km/h here, eventually?

SNCF - not content with trying to sell you "covoiturage" rather than train tickets, is now trying to replace trains with road vehicles equipped with rail wheelshttps://www.railtech.be/fr/infrastructure/2026/01/29/ce-ne-sont-pas-des-trains-mais-des-camionnettes-qui-pourraient-faire-revivre-les-voies-ferrees-abandonnees-en-france/?gdpr=acceptYou know what, France? Maybe just INVEST SOME MONEY IN SOME SMALL TRAINS FOR BRANCH LINES?

HmmmThe 2017 DG Regio report on #CrossBorderRail lines listsChalupki [PL] - Bohumín-Vrbice [CZ]as separate fromChalupki [PL] - Bohumín [CZ]Because there is a connecting curve here:https://openrailwaymap.org/?style=standard&lat=49.89919574726048&lon=18.33721160888672&zoom=141) Is there any passenger train on that curve? @wrzlbrnft do you know?2) Is there any point listing them separately, as the cross border track section is the same?

I think the answer here is NOT to include former rail ferries (Gedser-Rostock and Helsingør-Helsingborg are not coming back), and working out where there were rail ferries is going to result in some weird outcomesBut anything with an idea to build a rail line - so including Helsingør-Helsingborg and Helsinki-Tallinn - ought to be includedAnd the latter I have visited - by ferry 😂#CrossBorderRail

@Sobex It stands for "gegebenenfalls reserviert", and means that - although the screen cannot show it - the seat might be reserved by someone, so basically if you sit there someone who has it reserved might come along and tell you to move.It happens *either* if the reservation system is broken or, like today, the train in use has a different seating plan to the train that was meant to be used.

And as it’s a different type of train the seat layout is also different I’m not sure if most German passengers know what ggf. reserviert implies, let alone French ones!

However it is a ICE3, and these are fine trainsI am travelling first class on Interrail todayI have coffee and the wifi is workingAnd for now we are on time, and given I know there are disruptions ahead I am preparedAnd still, despite it all, I would still favour DB over SNCF *EVERY SINGLE DAY*, as at least what they're trying to do is right

HaIn Erfurt along comes a grumpy old German dude who behaves just as @eWalthert predicted"That is my place" he demands indignantlyYes, but this is not the right train, and sorry all of us here have reserved places tooAnd that Italian guy opposite (that is seat 72, my supposed seat), well he has a reservation for a seat that doesn't exist!

I then say to the guy - in German - he should just better go and find any free place, as we are not moving here as we all have reservations tooHe gets rather aggressive in response, saying he will not do that, as he has reserved, and let the train manager solve it, and he is to take the seat he has reservedDude, really, if you go *find* a seat you get a seatStanding there righteously scowling is not going to help you!
