Anti-Cheat dilemma on Linux?◉There already are anti-cheats working natively in Linux◉There are also anti-cheats working on Linux via Proton◉The only anti-cheats not working are kernel-level (designed FOR Windows exclusively)◉Kernel level anti-cheat could be implemented for Linux as numbers rise◉Question is: do Linux users want to tolerate such level of intrusion to their PC's◉Server side anti-cheat would solve the issue?►https://areweanticheatyet.com#Linux #anticheat #gaming #kernel #server

@Linux On a open platform is far easier to control what the anticheat is doing and turn it off while the game is not running.I dont like the idea and with the number of cheats for those types of anticheat just growing, i do think that this is a aolution to the past. But i would be willing to run those anticheats, if and only if, they can be verified to be turned off once the game closes, manually or automatically.

@Linux I just wish anti cheat wasn't at the kernel level. The games that have kernel level anti cheat and don't want to support Linux have some of the worst cheating problems in general (Take Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege for example) anti cheat does not have to be at the kernel level to be effective in today's world in my personal opinion

@Linux Alas, the problem is the "normies critical mass". If Linux becomes popular enough that normies are running it en masse, there will be too much pressure to cave in or even to normalize installing games (and their DRM) as root. Now, in theory, there is absolutely no technical reason why a game (any game) can't run with user level privileges only, including for their anticheat. As we are expecting people to install and run their stuff at user privilege level (eg.: via Flatpak), the expectation would be that cheats are running at user level as well. Server side anticheat with basic (non-invasive) client attestation makes pretty much any effort to go up to root moot.
