@lis > little choice butI don't know any platform that can run a Chromesque browser where running Firefox is harder than downloading the binary right from their official site, then execute. The users who won't have a fair portion of the blame. The rest lies on the people who hide choices from them.

#StackOverflow aka #StackExchange 's new posture on cookies, with a Dark Pattern to force visitors *and* users to accept all cookies including ones for tracking, is horrible (see image) and has raised quite some controversy, and are in need of some public shaming.https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/359358/we-re-adding-more-user-controls-for-cookie-consentThe buttons on their popup don't even work when you have your browser set to block tracking, so you can neither consent or reject to the tracking!

@ploum But you don't have a domain name on this infra either. Only an ephemeral reference, that ownership requires a payment and can be turned over, confiscated or pre-jacked without recourse.Get me a correct solution for point (1) and I'll believe in a "long-term" internet identity.

@protonprivacy Doesn't Proton collaborate with states in persecution of environmentalists and freedom fighters?

@Chapz @protonprivacy Please. The case of the persecution on freedom fighters was in Spain, not Switzerland.

@Linux Alas, the problem is the "normies critical mass". If Linux becomes popular enough that normies are running it en masse, there will be too much pressure to cave in or even to normalize installing games (and their DRM) as root. Now, in theory, there is absolutely no technical reason why a game (any game) can't run with user level privileges only, including for their anticheat. As we are expecting people to install and run their stuff at user privilege level (eg.: via Flatpak), the expectation would be that cheats are running at user level as well. Server side anticheat with basic (non-invasive) client attestation makes pretty much any effort to go up to root moot.
