You gotta ask yourself some questions:1) why can this be mounted backwards? Seems like an obvious failure, but not of anyone mentioned in this story.2) what on earth does assembling an M16 wrong (but not so wrong it doesn't work) and firing it into the ocean have to do with commanding a Guided Missile Destroyer?https://m.ai6yr.org/@npr_bot/113080013543898309

@vathpela My guess (not knowing anything about guns) is that the mount is very general, and if you get it the wrong way around you can instantly, non-destructively tell; so it normally isn't a problem.

@penguin42 I think it probably works as a trivial sight just fine backwards, and you don't need a scope to shoot skeet in burst mode off the deck, so it probably wasn't even worth fixing in terms of actually using it.

@vathpela @penguin42 You can look through a scope backwards, but the image is proportionally small and the reticle is mirrored for some reason.

@gat @vathpela @penguin42 which means as soon as he looked through it he noticed that it was mounted reverse. So how does the picture still go out? The only way the story makes sense to me, is that he was making a funny picture on purpose and got fired because of the scandal.
