It'd be neat to try to promote a film by making it seem like lost media. Put clips of the film on DVD or VHS in thrift shops and have someone upload parts of it. Drop hints about the film being from an altered reality by having parts of ads from companies that don't exist and mentions of events that never happened in the commentary.

@futurebird isn't that how the famous(?) "tombstone pterosaur" fake photo originated? Marketing for a cryptid pseudo-documentary, made to look like a lost historical photograph?

@futurebird You could even partner with the internet archive to create fake history of a site that used to exist, but has since shut down. It is a good idea.

@futurebird Mandela Effect is when branched causality collapses into insignificance due to observers dropping to zero, and the divergences merge. Stuff from other universes drop in to ours all the time. People just stop paying attention, and whatever they were looking at quietly goes back to probabilistic superposition instead of divergent universes, where each outcome was observed. Memory doesn't count as continued observation. It's seeing the evidence of yesterday that keeps it the same.

@futurebird I’ve got a toot saved somewhere where a girl describes creating a phantom band in her teens. She would talk about how good the concert was and she would stick flyers up on telephone poles iafter the date that the concert supposedly took place. Similar thing

@isaacfreeman There is no meaningful way I can easily prove this false. Well I could ask my dad.

@futurebird No lie, I've wanted to make a gaming zine for a while with this concept, more or less. The whole thing would be previews of hardware and games that never existed, walkthroughs for the games, etc.To make it weirder, I thought it would be fun to also include actual reviews and walkthroughs on indie games that got post-life releases on period-appropriate hardware and things like that, so that some games in the zine COULD be found IRL.Seemed like it would be fun, y'know?
