Maybe we need to grab the bull by the horns, and ban foreigners from owning local weapons businesses? Whether importers, wholesalers, or retailers.Hear me out.I was thinking about why gun regulation policy debates in Aotearoa have become so influenced by US-style discourse in recent years. To the point where the minister in charge of gun policy is a reputation launderer for the weapons industry (there's no such thing as a "former lobbyist"), who says things like "I love guns!" online.(1/2)

It occurred to me that maybe the US-style "gun control" talking points - both for and against - have infiltrated our policy debates because US capitalists have financial interests in local weapons businesses. So my first thought was that if they didn't have those interests to defend, they wouldn't waste their time lobbying us.But of course they would. The lobbying money would just be re-focused on trying to overturn the ban. But that would be quite revealing in itself...(2/2)

@strypey I’ve always thought criminals are buying guns “ out the back door” of legit gun shops.

Search through some of my earlier tootsThe gun crimes in South America and Thailand were all bank rolled by dodgy US arms manufacturers and supported by the US state department. @strypey
