@clawfulneutral try miraiverse. Its got a good amount of users and pretty open in terms of what you can say. I guess just dont criticise thaiwanese govt? Not like anything happens there.

@clawfulneutral @hancocktom41 I tried to clean it up just a little bit, but wow! I underestimated how much I was able to be opinionated while filtering through ~30 instances. It's no wonder why my final picks were the ones they were.

@am @HarneyB @clawfulneutral your site is by far the most perfect fediverse instance ive found, it was made by an artist that respects free speech (incredibly rare) while also having a medium-sized community meaning that a ton of instances that would block this one dont meaning we have the ability to follow accounts from all different backgrounds and levels of moderation.

@hancocktom41 @HarneyB @clawfulneutral thank you. i mean, that was the intent, i guess.well, i think as opposed to "free speech" i'm just interested in other ways of evaluating behaviour. a lot of older boxes in the day and communities would be more behavioural — whatever you're saying, just don't be a persistent asshole. that's the whole deal. and when in shared space, don't wave weapons around, don't threaten people. being a good neighbour was the best way to put it. i don't think most of our ideologies Matter in terms of inherent threats to others, but i do think that our direct words might make people unwelcome.i think what i learned from this is that i am not interested in public access so much as cultivating a very specific cave. i tend to focus on smaller, friends-of-friends approaches now.keep in touch —sdf.org/~kotomaru/

@am @HarneyB @clawfulneutral I think I see what you are saying. Its really not for everyone...in a way not everyone can truly be free peach, like there is a limit. For me its when there is csam involved (imo sites like pawoo are a net negative to all of society), but for others it may be gore or individuals who are being intellectually dishonest and purposefully lying by omission. Nevertheless I do highly appreciate the privilege of being able to make an account on your site and I will try to keep in contact. Maybe sometime you could spin up an irc chat or a matrix server :) .

@HarneyB @clawfulneutral its good to always keep a local file around if its important in any regard. Just look at how embarassing forums like xda are right now where literally 75% of their downloads are dead links.

@am @clawfulneutral @hancocktom41 Not perfect, only most potentially fitting at the time of looking (Winter 2020). Even my personal benchmark of an instance in pleroma.site tragically had the flaw of being owned and managed by a core Pleroma developer, which unfortunately paints a notable target, no matter how cared for it was. Even when pl.site was handed over as 'An Thing' for Jeder to fix, it wasn't immediately detonated, just slowly crumbling over a year (or half of one).Still maintain that my ideal instance would be like if Merveilles or Disqordia (RIP in peace) ran on something inbetween the features of GoToSocial/Honk(/Revolver? haven't seen much develop from over there tbh) and Pleroma 1.0.0

@am thank you for having us these years!! I ran a BBS for quite a while, while it was not a conduit to a wider network, there were some similar considerations, providing a public service (styled and offered as such) is not for everyone to be sure.I joined this place specifically because I heard the hosting bill was paid for a few years, and I wanted somewhere to grouse about politics (and, as it turns out, other topics, like privacy and a lite smattering of DIY adjacent tech) which, back when I joined, was more frowned upon on Mastodon than it is today. anyway I hope I didn’t stink up the vibe too badly with it, I did post on public pretty often because I’ve been feeling politically houseless for a while and wanted to find some interesting peeps. mission accomplished :)thanks again, it’s been fun… and, looks like I managed to get a single-user instance up and kicking before sunrise, so I guess I’m good 😎 @hancocktom41 @HarneyB
