If you're one of those people who don't understand why people cling to familiar interfaces, and resist swapping the apps they're used to for more ethical replacements, I want you to try something;Rearrange the apps on the homescreen(s) of your everyday mobile device. Do it once a week for 3 months. If you're one of those rare people who still don't have a touchscreen daily driver, rearrange the folder hierarchy of your /home.#HumanExperience #HCI

If interface familiarity didn't matter, we'd all be instructing computers in binary. Not through graphical interfaces OR command terminals.

@strypey ok but SaaS, and Apple’s aggressive upgrades, do this to me on the regular anyway. maybe it is the rate of constant change that causes people to cling even harder to familiarity. would be nice to say that ethical software projects recognise the value of familiarity, and that by shifting to them you are taking control of when and how change is managed. would be very nice indeed. alas, many projects don’t see the value in it, pretty much the opposite.

@strypey I'm one of the (possibly rare?) people who likes shuffling things up every so often just for fun 🎲I get your point though. And it may be working the other way for me. I haven't used Windows since 2008, so when I come across it everything feels weird and annoying. Of course it's corporately designed but I wouldn't be surprised if my unfamiliarity also plays a part :windowsxp:I've seen similar reactions when people borrow an iPhone (here in India most people have Android) :android:
