@maikel @elala @DanielleVossebeld doesn’t the EU already tax the rich? The site gives an example for Belgium where they define “ultra rich” as having 1.25 million EUR in assets beyond a main home. I’d think one already pays massive tax on that, no?

@maikel @elala @DanielleVossebeld the petition is very light on details 😅 but, thinking about it more, I guess the problem is brackets stop at 50%. For example, Belgium’s tax bracket stops at income over 46K EUR (taxed at 50%). There’s nothing beyond that level of income. I can’t find their capital gains rate for residents 🤔https://finance.belgium.be/en/private-individuals/tax-return/tax-rates-income/tax-rates#q1

@kumarvibe @maikel @elala @DanielleVossebeld if capital gains rates are things like dividents and interest on loans, those are 30% (in Dutch, it's also in french https://www.wikifin.be/nl/belasting-werk-en-inkomen/belastingaangifte/je-roerend-inkomen/de-belastingen-op-je-belgische ). there's also a whole bunch of loop-holes so people with money (and a good notary and bookkeeper), generally pay much less than someone who doesn't have enough money to start playing the loop-hole games.
