In other news, I bought some 18650 batteries from #Amazon the other day. I thought the 3000mAh rating was probably a slight exaggeration, but...

@thelastpsion Is 3000mAh even possible in an 18650?

@thelastpsion Amazon is such a disaster, and best of all they have no fscks to give as long as they're getting the sweet sweet cash.

@thelastpsion I really should test the actual capacity of my 6Ah porter cable "compatible" batteries. kind of like the SD cards and USB sticks that have been modified to report larger than what they are.

@Benhm3 I really don't think so - probably 2200 max. Like I said, I wasn't expecting them to be accurate, but I also wasn't expecting a brazen (and frankly lazy) repackaging job.

@satbunny I wasn't sure if that was the manufacture date or the expiry date. But given the situation, I'm going to say yes.

@thelastpsion at my first read, i assumed you had bought 18650 batteries ...Hopefully, that's the kind, not the number 😅

@yahe @thelastpsion Yeah tons of fake and counterfeit stuff. Amazon is garbage. Counterfeit super glue. A fancy one that was the cheapest one in wrong bottle with forged label. And more than one! 32gb SD cards that are 4gb, formatted 32. AliExpress is far more reputable. 10 years ago they were as bad as Amazon is now, they've vastly improved.SD cards, ssds etc I've found he manufacturer site (WD etc) is the same price as Amazon. And not fake or used or a return. Amazon is a scam.

@thelastpsion Well, why believe that one now? Keep going and open it up, I bet there's a 14500 inside!

@thelastpsion @Benhm3 It is possible, has been for a while. The well-known brands like Samsung, LG or Molicell still *somewhat* oversell their capacity, but if the nominal capacity is 3500mAh then you can expect to actually get >3000 out of it: https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Samsung%20INR18650-35E%203500mAh%20%28Pink%29%202%20UK.html

@thelastpsion Theft. Demand a refund for 'good not as advertised.' Tell them they can have their fraudcells back if they pay shipping. Report to Scamazon.

@muvlon @Benhm3 This is good to know.I'm going to be replacing the battery in a Pure One DAB radio. The current one is rated 2200 mAh. Would going for one with a higher capacity mess with the charging circuit at all?

@thelastpsion @muvlon I hadn’t even thought about that question. My only limited experience was with Ye Olde NiCads.

@Benhm3 @muvlon No worries! I shall do some research. You've just reminded me, I've got a few NiCads in old portable computers (80s) that I really need to replace with NiMH at some point. (The NiCads aren't in the machines anymore, just to be clear.)
