The only reason we listen to billionaires is because because they have a billion dollars. The only reason they have a billion dollars is because they were willing to profit obscenely from an unjust system and accept the role of being the standard bearers for inequality. Think about that.

@froge Clearly you haven’t benefitted financially from exploiting enough people and/or habitat yet. Would you be open to destroying a rainforest? I think that might help.

@aral As Argentinian cartoonist Quino once wrote, "you can't amass* a fortune without turning others into flour".* In Spanish, the word for "amass" in this context is "amasar", which means "to knead".

@aral Agreed. The billionaires effectively decide how much they get 'paid', and they decide how much we get paid. Why?I've often been frustrated about how 'value' is ascribed to different roles. For example, a doctor who saves lives might get paid a few 10's of thousands (dependent on country etc), an actor pretending to be a doctor might get paid hundreds of thousands...

@aral "Need for profit and willingness to use others is human natire", yes and it's called greed and ancient Greeks, first Judaists, Jesus Christ, Prophet Muhammad, all Roman philosophers despised this SIN and motivated humans to leave it behind and prioritize spiritual development, studying world around us and vreate and share new knowledge. But hell with it, let's build society as a whole to motivate this deadly sin and diacourage virtues

@aral I got pulled into a debate my son and his friends were having yesterday. My son said you wouldn't be able to spend a billion dollars on yourself without doing stupid stuff. He kind of has a point.

@aral agreed, and this made me think “what’s the limit on wealth given ethical boundaries?”Is it owning some amount of wealth (capital), or a business (means of production) or a combination of both (more likely)? Can we pinpoint limits?
