Trump spent a few days trying out the mean nickname "Kablama" for Harris and it didn't stick and mostly got a collective "huh?"But I just saw a comment pointing out that he was probably trying to mix "Kamala" with "Obama" .... "Kablama"This fits. It also explains why they wouldn't explain it, just keep repeating it and snickering.... I mean. How would it be helpful to Republicans to associate Harris with the most successful Democrat in recent memory?

I still do not get the Hannibal Lecter stuff. I know about the asylum seeker, insane asylum confusion theory.... but that doesn't explain fixating on a creepy movie antagonist played by a Brit. Like we've been around this before, but I still don't get it. I don't know why I expect it to be "getable" ... but I hate it when I don't understand something.

@futurebird It's confused me, too. He says a lot of weird stuff. Perhaps if I was willing to delve through the cesspool of Breitbart I could decode it. But it's not worth it. Why does he think Hannibal is a good guy? Why does he think Hannibal is dead? What point is he trying to make by bringing up a decades-old movie? Sometimes life is better with a little mystery.

@futurebird As a normal human, you would also not find it comprehensible that someone would be drawn to fly multiple times on a jet with a lifelong pedophile such as Jeffrey Epstein. Donald knows why he did though. Predators enjoy the company and pursuits of their ilk. I recall Mr. Trump fantasizing about putting alligators in rivers immigrants often cross. He and the fictional Hannibal Lector are birds of a feather.

@intransitivelie My current understand is he started by wanting to say just how horrible "people from asylums" would be (intentionally or unintentionally conflating the words) so used Hannibal as an example. But, then he got distracted thinking about the movie, and the way that movie Big Bads can be kind of cool. So, he became like a mascot, to chuckle about?So it started with racism and ended with old man mumbling and confusion.Maybe that's the whole story.

@futurebird my best guess is it gets a reaction he likes, so he keeps saying it, the way a schoolyard bully will repeat things without really knowing what he's saying. This makes sense from the perspective of Trump as shitty open-mic comic, constantly trying out material and going with what works. (In this case, I bet the audience reaction is good, and he loves when the press gets confused)

As for what he is conflating to Hannibal Lecter, I'm not as sure... The article says that it goes hand-in-hand with discussion of immigrants.Best guess: Hannibal Lecter started from implying all immigrants are criminals, but he forgot, remembered only that he supports the bad guys, so then Hannibal became his friend.
