@futurebird my best guess is it gets a reaction he likes, so he keeps saying it, the way a schoolyard bully will repeat things without really knowing what he's saying. This makes sense from the perspective of Trump as shitty open-mic comic, constantly trying out material and going with what works. (In this case, I bet the audience reaction is good, and he loves when the press gets confused)

Enshittification comes for open source:Slack is kicking two large open source groups, Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Kubernetes, off of their donated enterprise tier, giving them one week notice to migrate multiple years of data to a new platform before it's all deleted: https://www.cncf.io/blog/2025/06/16/cncf-slack-workspace-changes-coming-on-friday-june-20/Instead of learning from this experience and not trusting the good will of profit-motivated closed source companies, it looks like both projects will be moving to ... Discord. Because "people know it." Will we never learn?(Dropped Cory because he's probably getting tons of spam from this. Sorry!)#enshittification

@futurebird and when people do say "crime is a problem" they almost always mean "An unhoused person talked to me".

@foone I was all ready to make a guess about 30 vs 29.97 frame rates but I should have known the answer would be more cursed.Of *course* the default is European lol

@foone in case you're looking for reasons to give yourself not to do this: default values are a bad practice anyway! And breaking API helps library consumers know what call sites to update to avoid hidden behavior changes. Personally I have been finding that breaking developers prevents breaking users. It's annoying to have to defend your API changes but developers are better equipped to handle change than users are.

@futurebird @gleick I think I know what you mean. It's the kind of statement that shows more concern for a gender hierarchy than for the general principle of nonviolence. (personally I can't stand when I see people hit each other in anger, period)
