@futurebird The "hanfu movement" is a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanfu_MovementBut it is associated with Han nationalism.

@michael_w_busch Hence the "cyberpunk revival"The extreme Englishness of most dark academia content has similar issues TBH. In fact the Englishness is part of why it never worked for me. Although part of "dark academia" are the huge bureaucratic institutions, the vast libraries, the imperial core, like the eye of a storm and all that.

@futurebird @michael_w_busch I was all exited or this idea--I have a sequence of fantasy short sorties about a profoundly corrupt university--but "dark academia" doesn't seem to be as deep as all that. Alas. Lots of potential there!(I've worked in universities my whole life, same as you, I think?)

@OrionKidder @michael_w_busch This book is really good. But kind of overwhelming to read.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babel,_or_the_Necessity_of_Violence

@futurebird @OrionKidder Kuang's "The Poppy War" seem to have had the fantasy equivalent with the Sinegard arc in the first part of the book?

@futurebird @OrionKidder @michael_w_busch My micro-review is that it did what it had to do to make its point — and that point is well and brutally made. https://findthethread.blog/Babel-R-F-Kuang/
