I’ve been reading a sci-fi anthology that I found at my father’s house. I picked it up because it contained the story ‘Killdozer’ and I remember the memorable film of the same name. However, how surprised would you be if I told you it also contained a story written in 1954 that basically predicted ChatGPT, LLMs, and the threat that they face to writers?Care to guess who the author of that prescient story was? #scifi #LLMs

@FredKiesche @PlaneSailingGames @Tim_Eagon Ironically, but unsurprisingly, searching for this story on the web turns up a bunch of “ChatGPT-assisted” fiction in the results.

@FredKiesche @btravern @PlaneSailingGames @Tim_Eagon A logic named joe is what I thought too, though it is written in 1946.

@Robert_Brandt @FredKiesche @btravern @PlaneSailingGames @Tim_Eagon I too thought Murray Leinster's "A Logic Named Joe." But only because it is arguably the earliest scifi story to predict the internet.https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?865228

@nyrath @FredKiesche @btravern @PlaneSailingGames @Tim_Eagon If one wanted something newer, maybe Demon Seed, though I wonder how today's audience would view that film
