@simon that's very interesting to read. I think that what puts me off coding in public is fear! I think I would be embarrassed to have strangers look at my code. I think that in my head they would be judging me. I know that's a silly attitude!

This is a hugely depressing survey of the big auditing companies in general and KPMG in particular. I’ve often wondered how they get away with rubber stamping bad accounts and this, sadly, lays it all out (and more). Read it and weep. @simon there was an interesting blog post by @Edent which looked at the progress of spellcheck and grammar check in his lifetime. Worth a look, he makes some interesting points https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2022/11/is-it-cheating-to-use-spell-check/

@dangillmor @kissane agreed. That kind of gatekeeping behaviour isn’t good for anyone

@GossiTheDog @saper I think he is saying that if the passkeys leave the device and are stored centrally, then the government could gain access to them and thus all your stuff

I’ve been reading a sci-fi anthology that I found at my father’s house. I picked it up because it contained the story ‘Killdozer’ and I remember the memorable film of the same name. However, how surprised would you be if I told you it also contained a story written in 1954 that basically predicted ChatGPT, LLMs, and the threat that they face to writers?Care to guess who the author of that prescient story was? #scifi #LLMs
