The #WSFS business meeting rejected the “let’s not let any new people participate in choosing where #worldcon is held” rule change proposal in today’s meeting. 👍#worldcon #glasgow2024 #WSFSBM

The motion to require future #worldcon bid locations to have a passing rank on some human rights indexes got pushed to a committee, to report back next year. This means that if it eventually passess, the first time the rule would be in effect would be when selecting the site for Worldcon 2029.#WSFSBM

This was a prime example of how difficult it is to make changes to the rules – any change needs to pass a vote in the business meeting of two consecutive Worldcons. But to be even considered, it first needs to survive an object to consideration, a motion to postpone it indefinitely, and finally an attempt to send it to a committee.#WSFSBM

I see there are still many people living in a fantasyland where if you write something resembling a (US) postal address on a piece of paper, that proves you are a human. 🙄#WSFSBM

Also, when it’s pointed out that postal addresses (and even the whole concept of having one) vary wildly across the world so recognizing (let alone validating) an address would probably not be doable, I do not think “we manage to do it in California” is the strong comeback you seem to think it is.#WSFSBM
