Here's another thing I found from osgameclones.com that I thought would be worth broadcasting: did you know that the isometric helicopter shooters Desert Strike / Jungle Strike only have one #OpenSource clone?https://github.com/AMDmi3/openstrikeOpenStrike is an early project to recreate this classic game. Sadly it is unplayable and has been abandoned for 10 years, due to difficulties in reverse engineering. But it's perfect for the right #gamedev to adopt...#RetroGames #cpp #sdl #DOS

...because:- it's off to a great start - many parts like decoding the sprites is already done, as shown in the screenshot- it's a great game with no other open source clones/remakes- the project owner is a very active devSo for the right person, it's the perfect project to adopt next! If you're good with C++, gamedev, and/or reverse engineering proprietary 90s file formats, this could become a really cool open source game project. I'd do it myself if I weren't busy with projects already...

I'm not just a fan of the Strike series of games, having played them back in the day; the games, specifically Urban Strike, is special to me, because of this picture from the manual. The team photo is the thing that planted the idea of getting into gamedev all those years ago. As a kid not knowing anything about it, making games may as well have been black magic, but this photo - a bunch of happy, normal-looking guys and girls - showed me that if they can do it so can I!
