       @newt @johnnyryan Western regimes use algorithm virality to create uprisings in foreign countries and to manufacture consent domestically. I realize governments aren't a monolith but considering that they lost control of the populace via large media company propaganda outlets like in the past I really wonder if they will be willing to give up this tool.wrt UK riots, they are bad but I am not sure that we have more, or bigger riots like this now compared to the past before the Internet? These things happen because unaddressed anger (right or wrong) reaches a breaking point.I am also against The Algorithm because I think it amplifies bad things, but I am very cynical about everything surrounding this.
